Rediscovering Balance Through Indigenous Connectedness and the Wisdom of Seasons

Rediscovering Balance Through Indigenous Connectedness and the Wisdom of Seasons

Connecting to the land, learning the language of plants, and discovering resilience within.

Life has a way of challenging us, revealing our truest selves when things feel hardest. When the world feels overwhelming, it’s our connection to the land, the wisdom passed down through generations, and our gratitude for even the smallest moments that help us find our way back to balance. At Six Twenty Skincare and Wellness, we’re committed to sharing these teachings through our work—teaching others to walk through life’s seasons with purpose, resilience, and harmony.

Through our background in ethnobotany and Indigenous Connectedness, Jenny and I have learned that plants hold more than healing properties; they carry stories and guidance for how we might live. This understanding inspired us to create Walking Through The Seasons, a pathway to interpreting plant knowledge, connecting to nature’s cycles, and experiencing the healing power of on-the-land experiences. Each season has something unique to teach us, and it’s through learning this language that we discover how to live more fully, harmoniously, and grounded.

Hard Times as Teachers

Guardian of the Plains

With its broad shoulders, gentle slope, and contours that echo the powerful shape of a grizzly, it’s easy to imagine this rock as a timeless sentinel of the land.

"Like the Guardian of the Plains, I stand grounded and unwavering, my spirit held in timeless connectedness—a resonance that echoes beyond this earth walk. Guided by my higher self, I walk through each season with resilience, shoulders broad, heart open, attuned to the wisdom that flows through life’s endless cycles. In moments of stillness, I draw strength from the earth, becoming an enduring echo, a vibration that transcends time and space, steady and purposeful in the journey of existence."

These days, it’s easy to feel pulled away from ourselves—work pressures, financial worries, the endless buzz of online life, and the quiet but steady weight of family responsibilities. We’ve all felt it. For us, it’s been those times when the phone rings non-stop, the inbox overflows, and bills pile up. Or when the demands of family life blur the line between personal care and caring for everyone else. And then there are those quiet struggles with health, the kind that remind us just how much our bodies ask of us.

It’s in these challenges that we find the greatest opportunities to rediscover our resilience and ground ourselves in practices that strengthen us. For Jenny and me, it’s the teachings of the plants and the knowledge they impart—gifts passed down through Ancestral teachings—that help us navigate life’s difficult moments. In a world that seems to be constantly rushing, plants have shown us the value of slowing down, of aligning ourselves with nature, and of finding gratitude not just in the good times, but in every step we take.

Walking Through the Seasons: Interpreting Plant Wisdom for Wellness

Our workshops are grounded in Indigenous Connectedness and Walking Through The Seasons, an approach that connects us to the land and to ourselves. Each season brings its own energy, its own way of being. The plants that grow during these times have stories to tell and lessons to share. By learning their language, we understand their resilience and adaptability and begin to see these qualities reflected in ourselves.

Our aim isn’t simply to teach people about plants; it’s to interpret the experiences we share with nature for a deeper understanding of life’s rhythms. When we embrace the language of plants, we start to see how food becomes medicine, how stories turn into healing, and how nature’s cycles support every aspect of our lives.

What You’ll Experience:

  • Interpreting Plant Knowledge: Each plant carries unique lessons, and by interpreting these, we discover pathways to healing, balance, and growth. Our workshops help us learn to listen deeply and bring that understanding into our own lives.

  • On-the-Land Healing: Connecting with the land firsthand brings an unparalleled sense of peace and grounding. It’s more than walking in nature; it’s experiencing a reciprocity that fills our hearts and minds with purpose.

  • Seasonal Shifts: Just as the seasons flow from one to the next, so do the phases of our lives. Together, we’ll learn how to live in harmony with these shifts, grounding our wellness practices in nature’s rhythms.

Finding Resilience in Everyday Life Through Connection

Through Indigenous Connectedness, we come to understand that wellness is not just a practice; it’s a way of interpreting life itself. Wellness means finding peace and balance in each season, just as plants do. We learn that every challenge is a season of its own—an opportunity to uncover resilience and purpose within us. In our workshops, we explore how to look at personal experiences, even difficult ones, through the lens of plant wisdom and Indigenous teachings.

The gratitude we feel isn’t limited to special moments. It’s present in every breath, every time we make space for healing, and every time we sit in quiet reflection with nature. We encourage participants to bring their own stories—of challenges, of healing, of everyday life—and explore how these experiences, like the seasons, reflect the natural flow of resilience and growth.

Elements of the Workshop: Practices for Balance and Resilience

Listening to Plant Stories
Plants are our teachers in resilience, growth, and surrender. Each leaf, stem, and root speaks a language of endurance and adaptability. During the workshop, we guide participants to learn the language of plants, discovering what each species and season teaches about balance, self-care, and acceptance.

Seasonal Connection
Every season brings a unique energy that mirrors different phases of life—renewal, abundance, reflection, and rest. Together, we’ll explore ways to harmonize with these cycles through seasonal practices, gathering natural elements, and finding balance in the landscape around us.

Guided Reflection for Wellness
As we interpret plant stories, we invite reflection on our own lives. What growth do you feel right now? Where can you create rest and renewal? This reflection, like nature itself, helps integrate plant wisdom into everyday life, supporting a deepened connection with ourselves and the world around us.

An Invitation to Connection and Wellness

Our workshops offer a space not just for learning, but for sharing in a collective journey. In each gathering, we explore Indigenous Connectedness and nature’s wisdom, honoring the plants and stories that support our well-being. This is a space to bring your experiences, to listen and learn, and to create a personal practice that supports your path to resilience and balance.
